What to write on a thank-you card for orders

Write a message that sounds like the store, fits the order moment, and gives the card one clear job.

Short answer: Write three things on an order thank-you card: a sincere thank-you, one detail that makes the message feel connected to the purchase, and—only when useful—one clear next step. Keep the Front focused on recognition and gratitude. Use the Back for care, support, reordering, or a labelled QR destination. Do not ask for everything at once.

The message

Make the buyer feel noticed

A useful order thank-you card does not need a long founder story or a stack of offers. It needs to acknowledge the purchase in language that belongs to the brand.

First choose the card's primary job. If the buyer also needs care or support, continue that information on the Back. For the wider decision, read what to include in an ecommerce package insert.

Three-part formula

Thank + connect + help

Thank
Acknowledge the purchase: “Thank you for choosing our small studio.”
Connect
Add one order or brand detail: “We packed this piece to be used, kept, and enjoyed.”
Help
Add one next step only when useful: “Care instructions are on the Back.”

The next step is optional. A card can succeed by saying thank you clearly.

Two-sided structure

Give Front and Back different jobs

Front
Brand cue, short thank-you, and one supporting line.
Back
One useful continuation: care, support, reordering, or a labelled QR destination.

Do not repeat the same paragraph on both sides. Use the Front and Back package insert guide, then follow the MARKFOLDS card workflow.

Optional action

Add one next step only when it helps

Label the destination so the buyer knows what happens next. A discount is not required; use one only when it fits the order moment and the offer has been checked before printing.

Before placing a code, read the QR code package insert guide.

Editing pass

Remove pressure, clutter, and promises

Seven-line brief

Write this before choosing a style

  1. Recipient and order moment.
  2. Brand tone.
  3. Front thank-you line.
  4. Optional supporting line.
  5. Back information or one action.
  6. Required logo, URL, QR, or support detail.
  7. Claims and phrases to avoid.

Before printing, confirm every name, URL, offer, support detail, and QR destination, then ask the selected printer to confirm physical size, material, bleed, safe area, color, and file requirements.

Choose dimensions with the package insert size guide.

FAQ

Order thank-you card questions

How long should an order thank-you message be?

Use the shortest message that still feels specific to the brand and order moment. A few lines are usually easier to read than a dense paragraph. Move instructions or support details to the Back.

Does every thank-you card need a discount code?

No. Gratitude, care information, or a clear support path may be more useful. Add a discount only when it supports the card's one primary job and the offer is current.

Should a thank-you card be handwritten or printed?

Either can work. Printed cards create consistency; a handwritten name, signature, or short sentence can add a personal detail when the fulfillment process supports it.

Can the card include a QR code?

Yes. Link to one relevant destination, explain what the customer will receive, and test the final printed code on multiple phones.

What should go on the Back?

Use the Back for one useful continuation: care, support, setup, reordering, or a labelled QR destination. It should complete the Front rather than repeat it.
